Evaluation - Question 1: In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

Codes and conventions are what a media product follows, these can be broken and can make the product more unique and help it to sell. My media products follow and break conventions so that it will be different to existing products and attract a large audience.
My front cover follows most conventions of real media products. One of the conventions that is developed in my magazine is the model, she is looking directly at the camera with a pose to match my target audience. Also the colours I chose to use link to my target audience well because there fun, bright colours. Like the magazines I looked at, I included links to a web page and social network sites, banners and I have broken a convention by including more than one genre of music in my magazine. Another way conventions have been broken is from my masthead. Ellie and I decided to replace the letter 'i' in 'Lyric' to a treble clef which hadn't been done before in existing magazines we looked at. Also we are breaking conventions by changing the colour of the treble clef for each different issue, a magazine which changes the colour of each issue is Vibe. I do think that after many changes and adjustments to my decisions, my magazine front cover has been overall successful and meets my target audience brief.

My contents page follows conventions by having clear columns for my pictures and writing. I also followed the convention of having next months issue advertised and followed the style of one of the magazines I looked at, Q. I also followed the style of Q contents page by have bold white lettering on a red square to show the page number. Ellie and I also followed the conventions by including an editors review like other magazines. Overall I think that my contents page was fairly successful because I wanted something that was busy to attract the attention of my audience and I wanted it to look like a real magazine which I think it does because it follows conventions.

Conventions have also been followed on my double page spread by having columns for my text, a large title and pull quotes. I have followed through some colour from my colour scheme so that it links well with my front cover. I chose not to have my photo over both pages because it looked too stretched and unprofessional, also the existing media products I looked at sometimes just had a photo on one page. Compared to my front cover and contents page, I don't think this looks as professional and if I was to do it again I would add a prop and additional images. I think the questions I asked were appropriate and would be suitable for my target audience so this p
